Elder and Dependent Financial Abuse & Scams

Investigator Richard Birmingham
I am an Investigator with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, currently assigned to the Cabazon Station. I have served as a sworn peace officer with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office for 27 years, including the past 19 years as an investigator. I am currently assigned to the Financial Abuse Specialized Team (FAST), where I conduct investigations involving financial exploitation of elder and dependent adult victims. My responsibilities include investigating complex financial crimes, identifying patterns of fraud and abuse, gathering and analyzing financial evidence, and preparing cases for criminal prosecution. Prior to my assignment at the Cabazon Station, I was assigned to the Special Investigations Bureau as a Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). In that capacity, I conducted complex, large-scale narcotics investigations targeting transnational drug trafficking organizations. My duties included coordinating with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, utilizing a variety of investigative techniques, and participating in long-term investigations that resulted in the disruption and dismantling of major drug trafficking organizations.
